There's a quiet trade-off that comes with booking a hotel during Black Friday. You can take the lower rate, or you can keep the things that make a stay feel like a stay — the breakfast, the resort credit, the upgrade that turns a standard room into something you'll remember. Most years, luxury properties split those two and make you choose. The promo price appears, and the small print quietly removes what the full rate included. What you saved on the room, you pay back somewhere else.

I've worked as a travel advisor for a few years now, and every late November someone asks the same question: "Is this the cheapest it gets?" The honest answer is usually "it depends how you add it up." The nightly rate drops, the perks vanish, and the math doesn't always land in your favor.

This year is a little different. I went through Ronee Uyeshiro's Hotel Shortlist newsletter — the source of much of the thinking here, and worth the thanks — and then laid the advisor rates I can access at Wonderia Travel against typical off-season direct pricing. The Black Friday rate isn't published — you'll need to ask an advisor for pricing. Standard runs $600–1,200 a night. The Black Friday potential is 25–30 percent off, plus the full set of VIP perks: an $80 breakfast for two, a $100 stay credit, and a confirmed upgrade. The room count here is small, and the Black Friday release is smaller still — that's why you inquire rather than book online, not because anything is hidden. It sits quietly in Napa Valley, suited to anyone who treats "doing nothing" as a proper itinerary.

Carmel Valley Ranch (Carmel Valley, Hyatt Privé)

Up to 30 percent off. Book between 11/13 and 12/11/2025 for travel 11/20/2025 through 4/30/2026. Standard $600–900 a night; Black Friday from $420. The VIP perks stay attached. To reserve, speak with your Wonderia Travel advisor. I have a soft spot for this one — the valley is open, there are more animals than guests, and the evening light on the oaks beats any tagline.

Auberge Collection (North America and Europe, via advisor through Auberge Collective)

Up to 35 percent off. Book 11/12 through 12/2/2025; travel dates vary by property. The promo code is FRIENDS25. It covers Auberge du Soleil, Wildflower Farms, the Madeline Hotel in Telluride, Hotel Jerome in Aspen, and Bishop's Lodge in Santa Fe. You can stack the 35 percent discount with breakfast for two, a $100 credit, an upgrade (subject to availability), and a welcome amenity. The code is most reliable through the advisor channel — enter it yourself on the brand site and you'll often lose the breakfast and the credit. One note: not every promo rate protects all perks, so have your advisor confirm before you commit.

Farmhouse Inn (Russian River Valley, Relais & Châteaux)

50 percent off. Book 11/17 through 12/2/2025 for travel 11/17/2025 to 5/21/2026. Standard $700–1,200 a night; Black Friday $350–600. The detail that matters: breakfast stays included, even at the sale price. The Russian River Valley is quiet in fall and winter, and the fireplaces and nearby wineries fit the season, so that half-off doesn't come with anything subtracted — rare for Black Friday.

Worth a Look, Without the VIP Layer

These don't give you advisor-exclusive benefits, but the rates are low enough to book yourself — and during the Black Friday days, their direct prices often beat the off-season norm.

Parker Palm Springs: 50 percent off. Book 11/28–12/1/2025 for travel through 12/25/2026. Prepay, non-refundable, with blackout dates. Standard $400–800 a night; Black Friday $200–400. Read the cancellation terms before you commit.

Dawn Ranch (Russian River Valley): up to 40 percent off. Book through 12/3/2025 with code BLKFRI. Standard $300–600 a night; Black Friday $180–360. Same valley as Farmhouse, a notch cheaper.

Proper Hotels (Austin, Santa Monica, Downtown LA, San Francisco): rooms 25 percent off, suites 30 percent off. Book through 11/28/2025 for travel through 10/2026 with code BF2025. Standard $300–700 a night; Black Friday $210–490. This code suits a weekend escape.

How to Actually Maximize the Value

A few patterns have stayed useful after years of helping people book.

Stack the VIP perks on top of the promo rate. This works for Hyatt Privé, Auberge, and Relais & Châteaux. A concrete case: Carmel Valley Ranch at a $700 standard rate for three nights is $2,100; at 30 percent off that's $1,470. The VIP perks are worth about $340 on their own — three mornings of breakfast at $240 plus the $100 credit. So for $1,470 you take home something worth $1,810. The discount and the breakfast don't force a choice this time.

Book your 2026 trips now. Most of these properties are open for booking into December 2026, so you can lock the rate early and pick the dates and room types you want before they fill. A Black Friday price is usually well below peak-season direct, and booking early tends to remove a worry rather than add one.

Compare the direct rate against the advisor rate. For properties with VIP, ask your advisor first — some codes run through the VIP channel, others only take direct booking. Don't assume. Pull both totals side by side; the gap can be a few hundred dollars of credit and a proper breakfast.

The Booking Checklist

Before you book, settle five things: Can you cancel? Are there blackout dates — they differ by property, and even within one brand, two hotels may not match? Do the VIP perks apply? What's the last day to book? What's the latest day you can travel?

After you book, don't relax yet. VIP bookings should come with the perks confirmed in writing. Save your advisor's contact. Screenshot any direct booking as proof. Set a reminder for anything non-refundable. For larger amounts, consider travel insurance. None of this takes ten minutes, and it can save real money in trouble later.

Why These Deals Deserve Ten Minutes

The usual promotion quietly erases breakfast, credit, upgrade, and points. The rate looks lower, and then you arrive to find coffee costs extra, the spa has no credit, and the room never moved up. Properties like Carmel Valley Ranch and Alila, though, keep the full benefits even at the sale price — you save and you don't shortchange yourself. That's uncommon for Black Friday, and uncommon is why it's worth writing down.
